The Great Michigan Read 2009-2010
The Michigan
Humanities Council has selected Bich Minh Nguyen's Stealing Buddha's Dinner for
the 2009-2010 Great Michigan Read. Stealing Buddha's Dinner
is a memoir that chronicles the author's migration from Vietnam
in 1975 and her coming of age in Grand Rapids in the 1980's. We
invite you all to join us in reading the book and participate in
the related programs scheduled this fall.
Join us on Monday evenings for our 10 week fall knitting
circle. Bring your own project or show your library card at
Heritage Spinning and Weaving in the Village of Lake Orion and
get 15% off any of the special "OTPL Knitting Circle" kits (yarn
and pattern) during September and October. Our knitting circle
is ideal for any level on knitter, but basic knitting skills are
required as this is not an instructional class. Please contact
Adult Services at 248-693-3001 to register.
Art that
inspires and engages, hands-on science that excites and
educates, history and culture that brings past and
present Michigan to life – all of these and more are
waiting for you at your local public library. Just
use your library card to receive a Museum Adventure
Pass, presented by Macy’s, and get free admission for
two or four, depending on location, at one of these
participating organizations.
