You are invited to attend our big event on April 27 from 7 - 10pm, the Friends'
first annual Passport to Spring.
This year's theme is An Evening in Paris.
The library will be transformed into the streets of Paris for the evening. There
will be food, live entertainment, wine tasting, a Lake Orion Community Schools K-12
art show, street vendors, and more! Tickets are $35 before April 20 and are available
at the front desk at the library or from Friends' Board Members. All proceeds from
the event will be used for library programs and services. Enjoy a fun night out
and help support your library! Please see the attached flyer.
We are still looking for a few artists and crafters to round out our street vendor
area, let us know if you would like to participate.
We are also looking for a calligrapher to make signs to identify and point the way
to the different areas (ie desserts, wine tasting, entertainment). Supplies provided.
Let us know if you can help:

Library Gala Entertainment Groups
A Reasonable Facsimile takes early music just about anywhere.
Renaissance and Colonial music multi-instrumentalists Anne and Rob have been bringing fun,
entertaining and educational programs to diverse audiences and locations for 30 years.
Selecting the most approachable early music, they also use humor to convey information to general audiences,
and combine stories, costumes and theatrics to bring this music to children. Venues have been as varied as museums,
libraries, churches, fantasy festivals, boats, public parks and private homes. Anne and Rob play a large assortment
of replica period instruments including recorder, flute, gittern, crumhorn, bagpipe, dulcimer, viola da gamba and percussion.
Both Anne and Rob Burns received Bachelors of Arts degrees with concentrations in early music but found working at
Renaissance festivals, coffeehouses, art fairs and community concerts in the Great Lakes area to be a practical educational
experience which drew on their offbeat senses of humor. You can join in the fun at A Reasonable Facsimile’s performances.
Woven Woods
What do get when you mix a band director, a computer systems designer, a harpsichord builder, and two automotive engineers?
You get the woodwind quintet Woven Woods. Drawing from the standard woodwind quintet repertoire, as well as arrangements of jazz,
contemporary and pop selections, we present an eclectic mix of music that appeals to all musical tastes.
The North Oakland Dixieland Band is a musical group specializing in both Dixieland and Swing music from the years 1900 to 1960.
We are located in Lake Orion, Michigan and will travel in the state to perform. The band is composed of a four horn front line consisting of
Clarinet, Cornet, Tenor Sax and Trombone. Our rhythm Section includes Piano, Tuba, Banjo, Guitar and Drums. This combination of instruments,
plus our musicians ability to double on various instruments gives us the opportunity to perform various styles of music and vocals from the Traditional Jazz era.
The North Oakland Dixieland Band is an "Outreach" group for the much larger North Oakland Concert Band, an 85 piece band that performs at much larger venues.
The Dixieland group specializes in playing for smaller venues such as library concerts, festival performances, senior centers, performing for traditional jazz
lovers and dances featuring swing music.
The Gentlemen Songsters began in 1932 as the Chevrolet Glee Club of Detroit. It was founded by Dave Redwood a general foreman at the Chevrolet-Detroit Forge Plant
who thought that men needed to do something more than work all day.
We are members of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association, Each year we participate in an "Annual Sing" in which we join voices with approximately 300 singers
from around the Michigan/Indiana/Ohio area. This year, we will be joining with other GLMCA choruses in Elkhart, Indiana. Click on the GLMCA District Sing tab on
the left or the link on the right for more information.
We also participate in Industry Sings. This is an annual concert in the spring where we join with other industry choruses (Detroit Edison Glee Club, General Motors Employee Chorus,
and Ford Motor Employees Chorus). Click on the logo to the right for more information on this year's concert.
