Oakland County 4-H is a program of Michigan State University Extension. 4-H provides youth development programs that involve volunteers in providing positive, experiential, educational opportunities for and with youth. Our mission is to create environments, through collaboration, that build strong, healthy youth who are proactive in a complex and changing world.

Gypsy Moth Suppression Program

The purpose of the Gypsy Moth Suppression program is to maintain and retain high valued tree and shrub species for municipalities and citizens. Avoid, reduce, and/or minimize gypsy moth nuisance and maintenance costs to municipalities and citizens.

The horticulture/agriculture program assists residents and businesses with concerns regarding landscaping, gardening, pest management and soil productivity. Linkages to assist traditional agriculture producers are also available. A variety of services, including diagnostics and educational programs are available based on the needs of the client.




Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

Master Gardeners are volunteers trained by Michigan State University Extension to provide an effective network of gardening programs and activities to enhance their communities. Volunteers participate in a 13 week training program each fall/winter. Volunteers then provide 40 hours of community service gardening education. Master Composters are volunteers trained by Michigan State University Extension. Volunteers participate in a 6 week training program each fall/winter. Volunteers then provide 15 hours of community service gardening education.




Michigan Groundwater Stewardship Program

MGSP is a cooperative effort designed to reduce risks of groundwater contamination associated with the use of pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers. MGSP is voluntary, locally driven and designed to address the concerns of individuals by maintaining a focus on the financial and technical constraints which drive real world decisions. The program is funded through fees that are assessed on sales of pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers.
