The Porritt Barn
This gothic style 1920s era barn is one of Orions historic structures. On August 16, 2000, the barn was partially dismantled and moved six miles from its original site at Silverbell and Lapeer Roads to Friendship Park. Volunteers helped restore much of the structure. On September 9, 2000, a community barn raising was held to reassemble the roof and lift the gable ends into place. As the photo below shows, most of the exterior renovation is complete. Additional restoration is needed for the interior, and landscaping still needs to be done. To donate funding or assistance, please call (248) 391-0304, ext. 143.
